Is it true that the newest Elites needs to be chipped- Firmware mod not enough?

A friend of mine told me this.. I really dont hope its true. He said that the newest Elites needs a chip to play backups, and that the firmware hack wasnt enough anymore.

If this is true, I guess the risk of getting busted on Live is a lot bigger?

Also, if the date on the back of my Elite says 14th of Nov. 2007, is it then one of those new models that needs a chip, like my friend said?

Some of the newer 360s have the Hitachi 0079K (not sure on that number) and they require a chip to be soldered in so it is a LOT harder than the other ones. You really gotta be good with electronics or you will F it all up. Google 360 drives and you will find a site which shows you the different drives. Well one good thing, least you probably got a Falcon chipset which helps with the cooling a lot better (look to see if its 175 W power, not 203, and if you have 175, then most likely a Falcon chipset).
