New to this area of converting to other formats and then burning to DVD. Read the guides. Still need more experienced help with type of programs that are good to use, best format to convert to, and burning the converted video to a DVD.

Example 1: Using recorded TV video: 'dvr-ms' from Media Center and I converted it to 'mpeg' using 'dvrmstoolbox' (can converted to other formats) and want to burn to DVD.
Example 2: Camera video in 'avi' format, now I need to edit, then burn to DVD.

Two different scenarios: Can I use one multi-purpose program (e.g. Nero) or do I need two different ones?

Appreciate the advice,

katydidit, Canada

Nero Vision will convert your mpeg to DVD, and will also allow you to edit your avi and convert it to a DVD Video format.

Hi Cyprusrom & Members:

Thanks for the direction. Much appreciated.

I've used Nero 6 for sometime, so the format for NeroVision shouldn't be much different ... easy to use.

I have an older version of Nero (v. 6.6.1.15d) and I can add the Nero Vision 3.1.0.25 (updates at Nero). Would this do or do I need to upgrade to the new Nero 8?

Any need for additional codecs/decoders. I have DirectX9 (XP Media Center 2005), NVIDIA PureVideo Decoders and what comes with Nero 6. I would assume that Nero Vision must come with a DirectShow?, e.g. ffdshow???

Thanks,

That should do it.nero has its own codecs. However, I would download ffdshow or K-Lite codec pack, this way you will have coverage for a multitude of formats. I would not get nero 8 yet as it has bugs still.

here guides for nero Vision

Another good and free program to convert those to DVD is DVD Flick

Hello again Cyprusrom & Members:

I've heard of DVDFlick but I have not yet used it. What's your opinion & experience with conflicts on the computer re too many burn programs and codecs?

Glad for the advice on Nero 8 and ffdshow.

I do have the Microsoft Decoder Utility installed in order to pick the preferred codecs for Media Center. Dell had their version of Sonic Cineplayer on my system that wouldn't work (had to remove). Couldn't play several formats and would crash the system trying to play mpeg videos??? It was also conflicting with the NVIDIA PureVideo (audio but no video). Took me a while to figure that one out!

I'm learning though. Thanks for the guides. Love Guides - handy!

I'll keep you posted and talk with you soon, ciao
