Is this the correct WiiKey 1.9g firmware update process?

Well I want to confirm this is the correct process before I go any further. I have a Wii with the WiiKey installed by a local dealer and I have never updated it before. It plays backup, originals, GC and GC-multi-disc games perfectly. I have a backup of SMG (Us version same as my console region) and it tells me it needs to update. I have read lots of forums and I think I have the process but I want to confirm.

1. Insert SMG backup and run the update that SMG requires prior to installing the 1.9g fix.

2. Insert the 1.9gBootUSA.iso that I got from the thread above. Let it run the test and then the firmware update.

3. Re-insert the SMG backup and do the SMG update again

4. ENJOY the game!!

I tried the update once but I didn?t do step one I started with the 1.9g disk and it ran fine, started the test but got the connection error. I?m assuming that because I didn?t do the SMG update first? If that what should happen if you don?t do the SMG update first? If so it would make me feel better and I would think that there was something else wrong like a bad solder point etc.
