Hi.I havn't been on this forum in a while but wanted to share my success backing up movies. I used shrink until it stopped working on me in 2005. I now use anydvd to rip and nero recode to burn. It has about a 99.9% sucess rate. I really liked dvd shrink. I downloaded it again in 2007 but it wasn't working. Does anyone know if there are good working copies of dvd shrink out there? I would like to use it as a backup. Also, much thanks to this forum. You guys gave me alot of knowledge!!!!!!!!!!!!

What exactly do you mean by "not working" when referring to DVD Shrink?

At first it would keep coming up with errors. Then it just totally stopped working. Wouldn't even open up. I thought it was due to the fact that the creator of shrink stopped posting updates. I havn't really followed the progression of shrink in a while.

Sometimes a simple re-installation of the program fixes it. Maybe you had some corrupt codecs, or other applications that conflicted with Shrink.
The program is not updated anymore, but that only affects the dcrypting engine. The transcoding/authoring function as you can see, many people use it, as it is a great free application, works with no pronlems and doesn't really need updates(it could be made faster, maybe better quality, more functions and such, but, the lack of updates cannot make it obsolete, like you hinted-maybe it stopped working because is not updated anymore. It is not able to rip the new titles by itself, but it is still one of the best transcoders.
You can still download it from AD:

Thanks for your input. I will delete my old copy of shrink and download it again. I assume I can use shrink with anydvd and I shouldn't have a problem? Like I said, it's been a while since I used shrink. I will try it over the weekend.

You are right, you can use Shrink with AnyDVD.I personally don't use DVD Shrink anymore, and never used it with AnyDVD. I don't know if needs any settings/options disabled/enabled to better perform with AnyDVD, like DVD Decrypter needs for example.

anydvd works well with dvd shrink , clonedvd 2 is still the best choice though with anydvd.

you can still use dvd shrink as said but it needs help, heres what you need to do if you want to use freeware

dvdfab decrypter to rip dvd shrink to transcode(sometimes you will need to use FixVTS or VOB Blanker to clean the file before transcoding with dvd shrink) then nero, imgburn or dvd decrypter to burn.

ZoSoIV is correct. AnyDVD + Clonedvd 2 is the best combo.
