Hi This is DKDuPex

I Have Recently purchased a bunch of ps2 parts and one mother board in particular did not have the BA5815FM Chip im am wondering iif this is normal it is a GH-023 model and instead of the BA5815FM it looks like it has a LA6508 Chip i found this weird also all of the chips that have a BA at the begining are changed with a LA Chip?? example BA5815FM is supposed to be there but instead theres a LA6508 im wondering if this normal another thing i found peculiar was there was an orange wire (looks like 30 awg) soldered to nothing on the front side but on th other side it loooks like pins i have no idea what it is for it could be a replacement part here are some pics of how it looks

and closer look at the chip
where its soldered to on the ohter side
and all of the othermother boards look like this

thank you for your help S'cuse my Newbiness

Different motherboards have different chips, some do have LA instead of BA, and the wire on that motherboard must have been soldered there by someone, not sure why, could be there to reconnect a cut trace, or maybe its there for something else.

And if theres no chip on the motherboard, then its most likely not modded.

DuPex,
What you are looking at is the "Romeo Mod".

Below has been copied and pasted from www.cyber-mag.com

"""The V9/10 Syndrome as we know it...

Firstly - the prevention - by far easier than the cure:
1) Carefully lift Pin17 of the LA6508 Chip,
2) Ensure no solder links it to the pad it was just lifted from,
3) Link Pin17 to 5 volts

Pin 17 was connected to 12v which is suspected to be the cause of dead V9 & V10's when scratched or poor media is played in the station."""

It's just a precautionary measure so your laser won't burn out.

No worries friend!!
