Hi I recently got a fat PS2. I am going to order swap magic online and am wondering what type of set I should get. My PS2 is NTSC. Now all I need to know if is easier to get the flip disk or use the slider tool? I am 14 and have experience with opening things up do you think it would be too difcult to install the dvd flip drive?
Hey Decodem, I'm 15 and I was able to install the flip top in my slim ps2 (which I guess is a lot harder due to some very flimsy parts in there), anywaysss
Here's what you can do:
flip top is the more convenient of the two, and isn't so likely to break as the slider tool, but it might be the more expensive way.. (up to 15$ more), as for installation, you just open up both cases, watch for the reset switch, and other parts inside, make sure no dust gets in, and unscrew/rescrew a few parts, if you are good with screwdrivers, then you should be able to do this.
Slide tool has been told to cause damage on the system, and is the harder way to go (cd tray must be ejected to put in everything a couple times..), its the cheaper way, and you might just be able to buy 3-4 slide cards for cheaper then a fliptop.. It's kind of easier to use/install then the fliptop..
I guess it's up to you, if you're a hardcore gamer and are paying 50$+ anyway, then I'd suggest fliptop, but if you're a casual gamer doing it for a couple, go for the slide tool.
I can't find a place to buy it. So I am ordering it online it comes with a flip top for 25$. So I guess I will go with the flip top. Thanks for the help.
No problem, make sure to read instruction pictures on opening your PS2, and make sure you get the correct fliptop for your version (all except the fliptop slim version are different)..
Most good ps2 mod sites have a section that answers that question, if not then just google "What version PS2 I have"
Most versions rely on a model number (usually starts with SCPH-#####), or the number of screw covers on the bottom of a ps2 to determine which version you have.
