Microsoft Corp. has admitted to this problem and set aside a mountain of cash to repair or replace defective units for customers. In order to prevent more problems of this nature, Microsoft introduced a revised cooling design with heatpipe and heatsink to cool the GPU and used 56nm chip technology ... [ read the full article ]

I bought my 360 new years day of 2006 and Ive never had a single problem with it. Ive had good luck with consoles tho, I don't recall having any hardware issues with any console I have owned.

SHouldn't be selling something that doesn't work in the first place! Much less telling me that when mine quit it was gonna cost me 150$ 2 get it fixed because your pos stopped working. If you asked me I think it was planned for some of them 2 quit working. I'm never planning on buying a console again.

Honestly i wouldnt put it past them if they release the initial launch 360's and others after with the intent to make those defective in some way but logically it would be stupid to do so. But when you think about it they never make their OS to last because there isnt any money in that. I think they tried to take the same approach with this system.

i had my console from November 28,2005 - January 6,2008 << on this date half way thru assasins creed my screen artifacts and a message pops up XNA Failure shuting down system to prevent further damage.
it shut it down all right every time i turn it on i get RROD sent it back they replaced it saying that because it was a developers console
they had to replace it. whats funny is that it was out of warrenty.
it was also funny because after that they wanted to know how i came into posision of a developer console. they made a whopse there were 200 developer consoles leaked to the public in florida alone.
just a funnything no meaning at all

On my second 360, I'll buy a third if I have too. Microsoft brought competition to the gaming world, one of the reasons we have the graphics on the new generation systems that we have.

Just admit it Gates, your console sucks.
I don't understand why Microsoft gets so much praise because they fix your console for FREE! And when people hear that word, they get excited! Um, No.
Yes a few console will have problems, and I understand that, but when your console has a failure rate of 33%, you should never be getting praised, and you should think about quitting the video game industry.
And what is with them sending you back a REFURBISHED console?! I bought my system BRAND NEW, I think I AT LEAST, deserve my console back, fixed, or a BRAND NEW one, because with that refurbished one, it's going to have a problem, and quicker. That's why you hear stores of people getting their 360 RMA'ed at least 3 times.
Mr. Gates, you don't have enough money in the world to make your console reliable, face the facts.

Are you seriously saying that Microsoft is the reason we have graphics on these consoles?
No, it's called technology, and time. Microsoft did not develop the GPU, ATI did. Just because they released it a year early, doesn't mean squat.
Plus, the PC introduced these graphics, not MS.

I got the 360 for free, I didn't pay anything, that's why I own it.
And did I say 100% failure rate you ignorant idiot? NO, I said 33%. Why don't you read before you speak?

i praise microsoft not because there hardware is great cause it far from it. i praise them because they can admit they made a mistake and do everything in there power to fix that mistake.

Actually, I read the thread, thanks for posting that though. It's talking about the 1st batch of consoles being defective and now Bill is trying to make it reliable.
Now read what I wrote again, it talks about failure rates and I said that he can never make it reliable. Even when the elites came out, they had the RROD and video output problems.
And if you ever go into a Playstation Forum, people post their problems and Sony fixes it, it's called Warranty, say it with me, WARRANTY! Sony's failure rates were extremely low as well as the Wii, now for Microsoft to come out and say that they are going to have the most reliable console, is a joke to many of people.

I was playing nice, saying what I had to say about Microsoft and speaking my opinion, but then you have some people who lash out because they don't like what you think and assume people are fanboys and blah blah blah.
Don't assume, you make an ass out of u and me.

Thankyou binkie7.
Warrenty i know what that is. dont have to be a dike about it. ah by the way microsoft can fix there hardware problims. redesign there MOBO layout the xbox is cramped not like the gorge forman grill layout heck i could stick a couple heatsinks in that thing. the reason xbox is in the hardware help department is, because they cant keep there system cool enough. another reason is the lead free solder they are using to wire the chips to the mobo, because they cant despiate heat as fast as lead based solder. lead free solder has a reputition to become frigile over time. the xbox gets so hot so fast then turning it off cuases it to cool really fast thus this makes any mettle weak even the joint on the chips become brittle so they pop off. this is consistant of up to 22% of RRODed Xboxes thats what there official repair reports said. but i havnt the time to argue. goodnight.

It's nice to see a manufacturer step up to the plate and try and fix some mistakes. However it isn't anything new and it's a little late in the race to make this groundbreaking. It should have begun the day the first XBOX 360 failed and was called in. It is kind of foolish for Gates to come out and say this, but I applaud his effort in trying to restore the faith for the 360. It gets bashed a lot.
--
People just need to stop crying "fanboy". It seems to arise when someone makes a detailed and lengthy post about how much of a wreck something is, and even points out key flaws and other things of the sort, and adds a little personal opinion to the brew. Then, when someone either knows that the information is factual and/or doesn't have anything to say, they simply shout "fanboy" at the top of their lungs. Get over it. It's like walking into Mexico and shouting "BEANER"!
--
Hopefully the 360s stop dying. I might actually buy one if I can see some reliability.

It's quite funny that Bill Gates is making his products more reliable... AFTER 2 years, HAHAHA. I mean come on, Bill Gates is the richest man in the world, he makes about $200 a second. MicroSoft came out with new 360 models, and they still have the same failure rates.
I'm not buying another 360 until I see improvements.

I jsut got 1 & really hope that i don't have any problems, i do agree that there where WAY too many problems with th e360 in the 1st place! I do not see why they would make them break on propose tho?! I know some would say so that you have to buy a new one or pay to get it fixed but that is just silly! yes they will make $ but with no customers ever wanting to come back. if they wanted to make money they would come out with say an elite system with 1 or 2 upgrades for another 100-200 for the new system. besides they make most of there $ offa licensing, hardware & games!
I am in HVAC industry i used to install & now i service/fix units! people are always upset when things fail especially if it is WAY too new to fail but it does happen yes the 360 had an oddly large # or units fail but sometimes things happen that an engineer & lab testing didn't account for!
