If you want to extract files from the xbox, you must ftp to the xbox, you can CREATE a xiso on your pc with files you "dragged over" from the xbox d:/ drive (do this by networking to your xbox, via a crossover cable)
the main problem is the pc cannot read udf (xiso) which is what the xbox reads , this is why you have to create an xiso so the xbox can read it.
Craxtion is the best xiso program there is, it can be found on the web.
theres a lot of advantages to ftp'ing the xbox to a computer, backing up your own games is one of them,
You can also put files, games, movies etc direct onto your xbox hard drive, if you do this, then of course, no disc burning is needed.
But if you want to create, say, backup games, on disc, then yes, you will need them to be in dvd format.
