I want to basically remove certain chapters from a very long DVD (Andrei Rublev). What I'm wondering is, if I just rip the dvd and manually delete the VOB files from my hard disk, and create an ISO from the remaining files.... will the "new" movie play contiguously? or do I need to make some kind of new index file or what? do i need to Demux first?

If you Know what Chapters you want to Keep then you can Just rip out those Chapters...Most Rippers have options Like this...Or you Can rip the DVD to a Single Big VOB file with One audio track and use a Mpeg editor Like "Womble Mpeg2VCR" to cut out the Parts you want and Put them in the Order you want and Make a New File and then use a DVD authoring Program to Burn it to DVD...You Might be able to do all of this even with DVD Shrink cuz I believe it has an option to make a DVD out of specific Chapters...cheers

I didn't see an option for that on DVD Shrink. I just ripped the whole DVD to my PC. is there any option in say, DVD fab to leave out a few chapters?

or maybe just delete the chapters in the dvd folder, and burn with a new index file or something like that? is that possible?

Well Maybe DVD Shring doesn"t have these Options, I have onlt used it a couple of Times and Found My Own Backup Method Produced better results when it came to compression...and no you can"t Just take the VOB file out of the Folder and the VOB files aren"t in Chapters anyways they are Just in 1gb Chunks...If you use a Ripper Like SmartRipper then I know for sure you can rip the DVD By chapters...good Luck

It depends on which version of DVDShrink you have. Try version 2.3

Try using DVDShrink version 2.3

I find it much better/quicker than 3.0

Also, have you looked at the guides on the internet. This was a masive help to me.

I hope this helps. If you have any more problems don't hesitate to post a question here.

Thanks! The guides on that site are stellar. Let me ask you this though, in re-author mode, how can I rip the disc so as to be able to keep the original menus? All I get in the re-author mode are the two files that contain the actual film elements. I'd like to keep the menu and extras if at all possible.

thanks again!

You move everything over. It should be very simple. If you have any problems, let me know.

When I Re-Author I just get the two Source Titles to move over, but none of the menus. I can Click and drag these two files, but they are just the actual movie itself, and a documentary that is also on the dvd. Maybe I'm missing a step? I open up all the files and click "re-author" and this is what I get.
