Can someone please help with my question i have a ps2 slim and i want to play ffxi on it but ffxi requires a hdd now slims dont have a hdd so im stuck but i saw threads on haveing a external hdd on ps2 slim but everything see is game backups, emus, ext.... If i hook up a external hdd to my ps2 usb port can i put in ffxi and it'll download all the files to the hdd and play like a Fat ps2 would?

yes i would like to play it online but im not considering burning it to the hdd with usbadvance and that stuff just wondering if it would install to the usb hdd like a fat ps2 would with the reguler ps2 hdd.
no. the final fantasy xi bundle came with proprietary hdd firmware, and only the official sony hdd can run FFXI. also, you cannot play online games from a hdd; it will fail the DNAS test.
a external usb hdd won't be recognized by the ps2, unless you use usbadvanced. so if you want to play FFXI, you need a fat ps2, network adapter, official 40gig hdd, and original FFXI.
