Im prety sure my xbox 360 is overheating. I have 2 360's and the one giving me fits gets noticbly warmer then my other 360. If I turn it on I can play it for atleast a hour with no problems. But as soon as I turn it off and turn it back on the video on the tv is all messed up, squigly looking and cant hardly make nothing out. If i let it set for 10 or 15 minutes its good to go for as long as I want (I never play more then a hour straight). Even if I come home and play it for 5 minutes and turn it off and back on it messes up the video until it cools down. But as long as I dont turn it off im ok lol. I am going to try to post a pic in here of what the screen looks like. I dont get no red ring or anything like that, its like the 360 dont know anything is wrong.




I just want to know what I have to do to fix it myself? Is there a seperate heat sink on the video chip that might cause this? If so I could possibly fix it by adding thermal paste or making sure the heatsink is sitting properly on the chip. Im not scared to do stuff like this I looked at the X-clamp and will try it if that was my problem I just dont think it is. But if someone knows for sure what the problem is I would be happy to fix it myself. I cant send it in to microsoft because the warrenty sticker is gone.

ok got bored here is what I did. I disassambled the 360 removed both heatsinks cleaned off all the old thermal paste and replaced with artic silver. checked the x-clamps and they are still pulling the heatsink down fine. And no change what so ever! lol

Atleast I learned a lot about the 360 dissasembly is easy and goes back together easy to.

while you were in there doing all of that why didn't you replace the stock fan with a Talismoon wisper quite fan? That may have helped you. It moves twice as much air as the stock fan does.

If you live in a warm area or keep your house warm then there is not much you can do to stop it from overheating.

I allready had placed the talismoon fan in it before this problem even started, didnt help 1 bit. and just for a update its still has this problem.

maybe your scaler chip is starting to go?

i'd do the x-clamp mod, like ps2menace said. it does provide a more even distribution to the cpu and gpu.

Wow what a problem. Looks like the gpu is overheating and having a short or something but not triggering the rrod. If i were you i would buy a digital thermometer and monitor the gpu temp.

there's one for 8 dollars here, i'm sure it would be worth it to help you find a solution to ur problem.

There's a place on ebay that resoders gpu's and fixes everything for around 50 dollars, I don't know if that would be worth it but maybe some electronics repair place could do it for you. Good luck, hope you figure it out
