so i've been burning for ages and have many, many, many movies backed up. i haven't had to come back to these forums in a while, since i have been backing up my movies without problems ever since.

so i just got a fast ass gaming machine, packed with 4 gigs of ram, evga gts 8800 video card (which doesn't matter when burning), windows vista 64 and a quad core processor. i've downloaded all my programs (dvd shrink, dvd decryptor, ripit4me, anydvd, and dvdfab platinum). anyways, i can rip my movies perfectly, however when i transfer them over to my taiyo yuden's (all my movies in the past 3 years have been taiyo yuden discs, and am working off an already opened batch, so not the dvds) ... anyways when i burn them and put them in my dvd player they now appear grainy as hell ... what gives? the video looks choppy ... anyways, i tried multiple settings on dvd shrink to no avail as well ... and i've downloaded daemon tools to ghost a drive so that i can open the .iso image file without burning to dvd to test it out, and they appear grainy on my pc as well ...

what should i do? any thoughts ...

Do Movies that you burned Before Your New Quad, Play on the Computer?
What program are you using to burn with?
Have you tried Imgburn?

As per forum rules.

Other than that, i agree with berryone, a little more info would help us figure it out.

@7thsinger - duly noted.

@berryone - yep. like i mentioned earlier, i'm not a newbie into the dvd burning realm, however whenever i burned movies, they did play on my pc dvd player (as they do now on my quad-core).

which program i use to burn with? depends on the movie. some movies do not burn all with shrink, so i use alternate programs such as the ones described in my first post. anyways, the point is, whichever program i use, the results are the same when i burn them to a blank dvd or use deamon tools to view the .iso file prior to burning it.

you think the dvd player software has something to due with it?

what is imgburn? never heard of it ... does this program resolve issues with new operating systems such as vista64 and bad ripping?

read up on imgburn. i use dvd decryptor and it works very well for me (over 200 dvds burned) ... anyways i believe this is an operating system issue with vista64. do any of the other posters have vista64 and have experienced the symptoms i have?

ImgBurn takes over the burning portion where Decrypter left off.

Try making sure the firmware for your burner is up-to-date. You're using good media, so that's good.
Maybe slow down your burn speed to 2x or 4x. And give ImgBurn a shot.

You may be correct about it being a vista Problem.
Check to see if you are running the programs as an administrator.
and the Compatability mode for the Programs.
I have them checked to run in Xp service pack 2.

This may or may not help, but it Can't hurt.

How long have you had your Machine?
What Brand of Burner do you have?

Also Imgburn is a more upto date Burn engine than Decrypter, But Has no Ripper. It's Well worth the money. (FREE)

@7thsinger ... yea i'm burning them @ 8x speed which is the maximum for the taiyo yuden discs (at least the ones i have) ... i'll try out imgburn, but like i said, even in daemon tools i could see the burned copy as choppy and grainy during playback. i mean very noticeable, not small specs but makes the video look like the old school streaming days, very choppy.

@berryone ... i haven't tried that yet. programs are in admin mode but don't know about the compatibility mode of vista64. the machine is very new and my burner is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827135156

so, i am gonna download the imgburn, but honestly, since it doesn't look right in daemon tools, then why would it look good when its finished?

maybe the compatibility mode is the way to go ... tell me if you guys got anything else.

actually, now i put in some of my old dvd movies in my drive and honestly they look grainy ... i got a 1920x1200 resolution 24" lcd ... but is it the dvd drive itself? i'm using windows media player 11 to view the movies as well as cyberlink power dvd ... but why does it look grainy?

Okay, as new as your machine is, your Dvd burner should be up to date. So, lets try this: rip doing movie only, run through FixVts before Shrink.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...ools/fixvts.cfm

Before hitting "backup!" in Shrink, run a deep analysis, then remove all the junk like other languages, etc. Then transcode and burn. See how that turns out.

Slow your burn speed down, and don't multitask while you burn. Let us know!

where do you slow your burn speed down?

i believe it isn't the dvd-drive either ... but like i mentioned, i have an evga nvidia gts 8800 512 video card and i was in there tweaking around some of the "enhancements" within the nvidia control panel while good luck chuck was playing and it sort of looks alright, but not completely. i think my video card settings are affecting how the movie is played on my pc and burnt ...

nevermind about the burn speed ... i thought you meant encoding speed ... but i don't think you can do that. anyways, the deep analysis in shrink still outputs the same thing.

i mean lets forget about the burning right now. whenever i put my dvd in my pc player, why does it look like arse whereas when i put it in my dvd player and watch it on my tv, it looks fine?
