Basically, instead of using mod chips, flip top trays, action replays, ETC ETC ETC, can I just use HDAdvance 3.0 to somehow put the latest version of HDLoader on the HD? I think it's HDLoader thats the custom made one that isnt sold right? Supposed to have the best compatability too..I dunno. I found out you had to put a modified HDLoader 0.8 or somthing along those lines on HDAdvance to load God of War 2, so it got me to thinking that you could just throw the full HDLoader on there and use that anyway.
no. hdloader 0.8b is a elf file, not an iso like the retail hdloader. you have to use ARMAX and the media player, or the memory card exploit to load the hdloader elf.
also, hdloader is for fat ps2 only. it doesn't support usb hdd, so it won't work on slim ps2.
And that worked magic for me. Note though, do a regular internet-in-general/torrent/google search for ARMAX (or specifically, "MaxDrive") -- and to load THAT, I had to install that to my hard drive via WinHIIP and load my HDA3.0 retail disk.
I now boot up into ULE4.12c, had the up-to-date SMS, HD Loader, and a slew of other tools 'hotkeyed'.
After looking and looking for a clear, concise method of doing this, that link on "somethingawful" proved to be the best I've found. Even with pretty pictures!
I hope this helps you, and felt it only fair to reply since you linked to one of my threads where I was having the exact same problems you were having.
Forgot I had that tucked away. They both basically say the same thing, but the 'googlepages' link doesn't have a forum attached to it (makes for easy printing, if you're keen to printing out and filing away instructions).
Follow that guy's instructions, and you'll be golden.
