Problem with AVI to DVD converters

I've tried 4 of these. Either they don't download completely, even with download manager or they don't work or -- most disturbing -- I'm told by Data Execution Prevention (DEP) that the program is installing malicious code. DEP then shuts down the whole process. Even when TURNED OFF, DEP would not let me access the videos I had stored and would shut them down. I finally gave up, uninstalled all avi to dvd software and deleted all videos. How does anyone get this to work properly?????

Thanks, Cyprusrom. I tried AVI2DVD, Cucusoft MPEG/AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter Pro (8889-2)and SmartSoft Smart DVD Creator. I think there was one other, but not the one you listed.
I'll see what that one does.
Should I turn DEP back on? It never appeared before I tried making dvd files from avi files. The avi files were converted from .flv files (youtube downloads). All went well until I tried converting to dvd.

It seems that the problem is rather common, and it might not the converting software to blame.
If you do lots of downloads, defragment your drive frequently.
It could be some of your codecs are corrupt.
-If you have Divx installed, uninstall and install the latest version.
-try this :
1) Open a command window (Start->Run, type in 'cmd' hit enter)
2) Type in:
regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
3) Hit enter
Try to use your AVIs.

Thank you! The converter you mentioned works just fine, so that's great! It took flv files and put them on dvd, the dvd plays in my regular (not in the computer) dvd player.
I don't think I have divX -- it looks like it just plays media. Is it supposed to do something else? As you can tell, I'm a real newbie at this.
I usually play dvds with Cyberlink and use dvd decrypter to copy, but converting flv files is a whole new thing.
What does the command do?
Oh, I do defrag very often, but thanks for mentioning that.

If you are having problems while trying to access/play avi files, like explorer crashing, that command in some instances will aleviate the symptom. Some people experience explorer crash just by highlighting an AVI file, are unable to copy/move them, or open them at all.
If it works for you, it is okay then.
The Divx is a codec that is used to compress/decompress avi/divx files.
As for your other software, DVD Decrypter is not being updated anymore. I would replace it with DVDFab HD Decrypter:

Hmmm. It says that command isn't valid.
But I was able to get the flv to dvd to work yesterday, then downloaded divX. Does divX just work or do I need to tell it to do something?
Have also downloaded DVDFab HD Decrypter and about to try that out.
Thanks very much for your help!
Now if I can only get my printer to print wirelessly again, looks like my antivirus isn't recognizing the printer again <sigh>

The Divx codec that you have installed you don't have to do anything with it. The programs that need it will access it.
If you are not having anymore problems with your AVI files, forget that command line. If Explorer still crashes when trying to deal with large avi files, just go to "RUN", type in the command regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll and hit enter.
As for your printer...can't help you.

You could also try using VSO ConvertXToDvd. The full version is the best one I've seen around. Also for just .avi files you could also try Cucusoft Converter Pro. Both are stand alone programs so try running them by themselves.

Hi, unfortunately cucusoft converter pro played &#&% with my system. Even after system restore, I still have programs that don't respond correctly and have error messages. I've asked cucusoft for a refund. So far, DVD Flick and DVDFab Platinum seem to be working fine, but who knows? It may be one reason I'm still having system problems. I'll keep the other one you mentioned in mind, though -- might need to make yet another switch.

I wouldn't mess at all with programs like Cucusoft Converter Pro, or any other shady software ou ther. The only ones worth mentioning are DVD Flick, best freebie for converting to DVD, and ConverxtoDVD, best paid. If those two don't do it for you, than you do have some problems with your system.
Try running CCleaner, it is a free registry cleaner, if you don't already have one. First time I used it it cleaned 3GB of junk left in my PC from all the softs I tried, install and uninstall...

Thanks, Cyprusrom. Right now, I'm just trying to get my money back from cucusoft & not making much headway.

I downloaded the CCleaner, it's been a while since I cleaned up registry & so forth. Have been a little hesitant, since the last time I used a registry cleaner, I cleaned a little *too* well :-( Thanks for the tip!

I use CClaner with no problems. Will not clean anything without you giving it the okay. I was pretty bad about cleaning myself, and first time I ran it, it cleaned like over 2 GB of junk...
