I own a PSP lite, purchased with 3.71 firmware. I had a professional install 3.71 M33-2 firmware on it, and everything worked great for a couple months.

But a week ago, the PSP just died. It doesn't turn on, no light comes on while charging. The PSP shows no signs of any functionality at all. I have tried using multiple batteries as well.

I bought the system only a couple months ago, and I know that the fault is not with the homebrew firmware, because this looks like strictly a hardware issue, solely Sony's responsibility.

If i send the PSP to Sony to be repaired under warranty, will the current firmware be an issue? Can SONY detect the frmware in a "dead" PSP?

Thank You everyone in advance

Since you installed custom firmware, I am sorry to inform you, your warrenty has been voided. Have you tried Pandora's Battery and Magical Memory Stick? I am sure that Sony has a way of checking what firmware you had. Do the wallmart trick: Buy a PSP Slim, put your non-functional PSP in the box, say that it stopped working after you updated it to play a game, get a refund, enjoy your brand new PSP ;)

PSP Slim: Piano Black, 3.90 M33 + Sony 8GB MSPD
Airsoft Gun Of Choice: ICS M4 R.I.S. Baby!

No I have not, but I must admit im kind of a n00b and I wasnt really confident to make a Pandora's battery. My other option, of course, was to pay someone to try it, but this doesn't seem like a bricked psp at all. Im not sure if attempting the Pandora- Magic Memory stick would be worth it.

I'm think of trying the walmart trick, haasmon, but can't they track the psp from the serial number? I know that apple does this for ipods, but I'm not sure about sony.

The Wal-mart trick won't work. All gaming systems serial numbers are scanned and usually printed on the receipt. They will cross check the serial number to the receipt bar code.

Have you tried plugging in the PSP via AC Adpater and see if it will boot up?

If I was you I would think about updating the PSP to Official firmware.

Then send it in since it is under warranty.

If it happens to go dead again you might never get it back up and running.

@haasmon92
Let's not post the Walmart trick - that is so wrong - you're basically stealing. And guess who pays for these little tricks? The rest of us.
