This is probably (hopefully) easier than I expect, but with after several experiments and searches, I haven't had any luck.

I been backing up my DVD's for years, first with DVD Decrypter, now with AnyDVD & CloneDVD and Nero, or with DVDFab HD Decrypter 4, with loads of success. I usually just do the main movie, although sometimes I keep the menus and some special features.

What I'd like to do is add to or replace the initial logo/splash screen (either FBI warnings and/or film company deals) with a short clip of my own. What would be the preferable or required format, and how would I add it to the VIDEO_TS folder (i.e. naming .vob or .ifo or what not)?

Thanks to everyone in advance for any advice.

Well I got my little 8 second avi converted using Sothink Movie DVD maker which resulted in the following familiar files in a VIDEO_TS folder:

video_ts.bup
video_ts.ifo
vts_01_0.bup
vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_1.vob

I tried using the re-author mode in DVD Shrink but it doesn't recognize them. Nero Vision Express will let me convert the avi but then doesn't recognize the VIDEO_TS folder for the full movie. Nero Burning Rom recognizes everything, but obviously there are duplicate file names from the two VIDEO_TS folders (the one with the full movie and the one with my little clip). Will a simple file renaming do the trick? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, while waiting for a reply, I kept fiddling around and figured it out.

Thanks anyhow!

It is quite possible to do what you want using DVD Remake Pro.
You can create short DVD file from your clip and open it as second project in Remake, than import PGC into first (original) project.
You may have to change a few commands, but it all depends what you want to do.
This is all done without re encoding your original, except for addition.

That sounds a little rather technical, and might not be what a new user is looking for, rewriting PGC command lines...
I am sure it can also be done in DVD Shrink or Nero Recode by appending the main title to the VOB that he created from his 8 second clip, and even though it requires re-encoding, I think is a very simple, "newbie" way to do it.
I just asked if he would nicely be willing to post the resolution to his problem so this thread would be a learning experience for further members, otherwise it is just a waste of time and space!

I agree with you 100%. It is not very nice when people leave post open, or not posting their results.

I know a couple of ways.. ifoedit will do it, as does my simple cheat.. Rip to avi or mpeg.. cut the fbi crap off the avi, join whatever bit of video I want to the start.. (must be same aspect and framerate+audio codec) then author the dvd.

That trick with converting the entire movie to AVI and back to DVD is one way to work around it,but is probably time consuming(convert twice AVI/DVD) and some quality loss?
You can just convert the small clip to DVD and use DVD Shrink to reauthor/cut FBI out/join the 2 titles- works great, no quality loss for the movie. Nero Recode does the same under Remake DVD.
Or you can use AViDemux to join the movie with the clip and then reauthor the DVD without need to convert the main title to a different format..

Here is what I did, I've since burned three movies with this technique and they've worked perfectly.

Converted my short avi into a vob file ising Sothink Movie DVD Maker (free download)

In the main movie VIDEO_TS folder, I renamed the vob files up one number (i.e. vts_01_1.vob to vts_01_2.vob, vts_01_2.vob to vts_01_3.vob and so on)

I then copied the avi turned vts_01_1.vob file in the main movie VIDEO_TS folder, keeping it as the first in the sequence, and voila!

Keep in mind that this was burning the main movie only, no menus or special features. It ended up being surprisingly simple!

That's exactly what I am talking about when I b!@#h and say "tell us how you did it" so others can learn - which is the purpose of this forum!! It is so darn simple!
Did you play the end of the movie? Did the last part of the movie play okay?

All the movies I've done this with have played perfectly, beginning to end. A couple corrections from my last post:

It should have read "using" instead of "ising" and I added my converted avi vts_01_1.vob file TO the main movie VIDEO_TS folder.

Yeah, I got that.
However, I experimented with one little VOB, and when I tried to play the IFO, once it got to the extra VOB it gave me an error...
