bad audio with canopus ADVC-110

I'm capturing recorded Hi-8 A/V using the above box, and the video is
fine but the audio sounds like the chipmunks. I've tried all the audio settings I could find but the result is the same. I'm using XP SP-2 media edition and I've tried Nero 7.0, windoze movie maker and main actor for capturing software with the same result. I'm using RCA's for analog audio input to the Canopus ADVC 110 and an S-video cable from the camera to the 110. Firewire from the 110 to my EVGA 680i mobo running an intel conroe 6700 dual core cpu, 2 gigs ram.

Anyone know what I'm missing?
