I don't care if this sounds retarted or not but I just need to know. What is so damn special about these swap magic disks anyway? I mean c'mon shelling out 40 or so dollars legally for illegal disks to play illegal (mostly anyway) copies of games? Does that even sound ethical even for a hacker? But just what is it about the format of the disks or their structure that makes even copying them not work? Doeas anyone really know? Sorry to sound like such a bore but it's late for me and I needed to take out some extra mental stress on something!

Yes the structure on the discs are different, because they are pressed like an original game. There is no manufactured dvd burner out that can read/write all the sectors on a pressed disc unless a special firmware hack is made for it.I have read the readme in the ZoneLoader documents, and it is possible to create a firmware hack to where it can work.It wouldn't be easy creating that firmware hack for a dvd burner to read and write pressed discs, but it is possible and would require a bunch of time. For one not alot of information is offered about this except the ZoneLoader documents, and the other reason is why create something like it when there are already ways around it.

Pressed discs use a PTP (parallel track path)= layout where both tracks run in parallel (for independent data or special switching effects)

The dvd burners\media we all buy and have to use mess with this format OTP (opposite track path) = layout where the second track runs in an opposite spiral; that is, the pickup head reads out from the center on the first track then in from the outside on the second track.

There is no possible way that I can think of that can duplicate a pressed disc, unless streaming the boot sectors that are missing back on the disc by a device such as Swap Magic or Modchip.

I never thought that maybe they had the boot sectors pressed on them. my guess was that they found a way to trick the ps2 from corretly reading the wobble. huh! How did they get a hold of the boot sector and find a company willing to press copyrighted boot code anyway? what a crazy world we live in! Still, i'd rather not pay legally for illegal stuff, still just sounds kinda silly. kinda like forums for modchips and backups that have a "no piracy allowed" sticky attached to them ;-) It's a shame more people didn't make a strong commitment towards hacking this little gem. oh well, theres still the 360!
