cannot unzip a file

I have this file, ending with *.rar and have tried to unzip it and unrar it, but I get the following error message: "The systen cannot find the path specified"
The name of the file has allot of "." in it, so I tried to rename it, but it wont let me. Its like the computer refuses to recognize it.
Any ideas? I am a beginner in computers, so anybody with ideas, break it down into english.

you need to download winrar

http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10007677.html

download that and the files ending with .rar
will be opened

I have used WINRAR and it still gives me the same Error message:
The System cannot find the path specified.

Any ideas?
