Hi there.

I recently bought an softmodded xbox, so I'm pretty new to the xbox scene. The guy I bought it from couldn't tell me how it was softmodded (I think he just tinkered around).

Read lots of topics about upgrading the harddrive, so I bought a 250gb Seagate and gave it a try.

I used xboxhdm 1.9 to make an iso out of my original (softmodded) drive, but no luck. I just kept getting a 'virgin state' xbox.

Finally I cloned my original softmodded hd (i'm a pro in unlocking/locking by now), and it WORKED! But I logically got a second "10gb formatted" drive.

Now my question: what's the best method to partition and format the rest of the free harddrive space?

Thanx in advance

Good question. What dashboard do you use? I use three, although; I used unleashx to setup and format an F: and G:. Using your dashboard does it recognize the fact that you have more space then the partitioned 10G? Does it give you and option to enable F: and/or G: and then format them?

Thank you for your reaction DLyon4.
When I bought it, it started right away with XBMC.

It did recognize an F and G disk, but those where not available.

I finally found xbpartitioner (hate the frase 'found in the usual places'). I've searched for over an hour and found it in 'Frostys rescue disk'.

The moment I had XBPartitioner, it costed me 25 seconds and the drives where available and formatted.
System works perfectly now.

cheers

Bingo, You always had the space, just not the partitions. When I went bigger (320g) evolutionx just gave me the option to enable and format F:, I had to add unleashx as an app and then used it to get G:. Might I make a suggestion? I also use XBMC for most things, but when I'm working on the nuts and bolts I boot unleashx from the app folder. Since you found the partitioner program look for unleashx, add it as an app and then you have a tool when you need to work on your console. Don't get me wrong XBMC is great for what it does, but I really like unleashx for tinkering. And it does way more tinkering things then either XBMC or evolutionx. Since you went bigger I'm assuming you'll want the storage for games. I like dvd2xbox, it's fast, easy and every game I copied over works fine, except for KotOR2 which has known glitches from the HDD, sometimes. Anyway add it also as an app and you won't regret it. Oh, one other thing, don't put game on E:. It's small to begin with and since all the important stuff is there, I stay away from it and nothing gets accidently deleted.

Thanx, I'll look into UnleashX and dvd2xbox.

I'm very happy I've upgraded my XBox with a larger drive correctly.
But I still can't stand it, I wasted 5 dvd's on making a XBoxHDM bootdisk, and it still didn't work (constantly unlocking, wiping table, building from scratch, locking, testing). Not of the dvd's though, but of the failure.

I know now I probably copied the shadowed C from my original softmodded hdd, so that's the reason the hdd booted in MS Dash (and not in XBMC). Haven't found a workaround for it still.

cheers
