I just bought and installed this chip, but I am having difficulties. I get the Chip Mod splash screen when I boot up and I can get into the config menu. It plays my original PS2 games, but not original PS1 games or any backups. Do you have any advice on where to start trouble shooting? I would feel better if it played my original PS1 games. Is there a setting I need to change? I haven't found a manual on what the settings in the config menu do either.
Thanks,
Jason
Hey I bought the same chip early last year and installed it on my v15. I could not get mine to work either. I reinstalled it at least 15 times before I sent it back to the modchip.ca. They charged me the 25 dollars to test the chip and told me it was ok. But then they said that since it was installed in a working ps2 that they would just send me a new one. I was pissed. I have dealt with this company many times and I feel that they screwed me hard. As for your problems make sure the qrst connection are correct. The spots the wires attach to are very small and may look like they are connected. This was my biggest spot for error. Also the eprom part. Make sure there are no bridges on any of the pads close to the ones you are soldering. One last thing maybe to make sure the software on the chip is set to auto detect the disc type. BTW this chip is based on the Matrix Infinity. I just got this info from Modchip.ca
Thanks Jakxxx, I will pull back apart and check connections. I double checked my connections for solder bridges with my ohm meter and I used good flux and scuffed the empty pads before terminating the wires. I just read today that this chip was based off the Matrix Infinity, I just downloaded some stuff from there site also.
On the infinity site it says I have to hold the reset button til the blue light turns on for PS1 and back up games...I never read that on the ChipMod site, I hope it is that easy.
Thanks,
I personally haven't tried to run any ps1 games on my ps2 so I don't even know if mine works for that. I thought these chips could auto detect what type of disc is in the machine and boot from it. Let me know how it works out for you.
Well last night I pulled it back apart and took all the bios wires off the processor legs. I took solder wick and cleaned the legs up really good and resoldered those wires. I will say I have worked 20yrs in the microelectronice fiedl and that was the toughest solder job (those 5 wires). Anyway, so now it auto boots my original PS1 and PS2 games and I get a blank screen when I put a DVD-R back up in. I guess I need to look at some of the media discussions now, maybe it could be my .ISO file.
Not sure I mentioned before, I have an old fat Version 9 PS2.
