I was converting an .avi file to mpeg1 with TMPEG and played it as a VCD on my DVD player to find that it showed on my TV too large. It cuts off some of the subtitles from the top and bottom. These are the settings that I used:

NTSC

Interlaced
Top field first (field A)
Aspect ratio 1:1

After I had found out that it showed on my TV too large, I went back into the program to try and fix the problem when I found the aspect ratio to be:

4:3 525 line (NTSC, 704x480)

These are my questions:

1. What aspect ratio do I use so I can view the file correctly on my TV via a DVD player?

2. Do I have to convert the .avi file all over again with the correct aspect ratio, or can I go back an edit it?

Any other helpful information regarding this is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

hi there...i was just having the same problem with yours...well, i tried to use different settings just to view it on my TV perfectly...here are the settings i used:

NTSC-film
non-interlaced
bottom field first
aspect ratio 4:3 525 line(ntsc)

To tell you the truth, i got the same result...i missed the top and bottom as well as the side part of the movie when played in standalone player... but if you want alternative solution, you can try tweaking the "video arrange method" try selecting: center (custom size)then set the pixels to 320x218...i already tried this one and saw my movie perfectly fit into 4:3 TV screen...i do not recommend this one because its just an alternative...there must be better solution to solve this problem... aside from that, i dont want to miss the 352x240 pixel...more pixel means better quality :)

Look at the DivX -> VCD guide from our article section, the aspect ratio, etc settings for converting DivX's to VCD are listed there.
