Sony DRX-840U - No sound?

Hi all, new here. I've read through the FAQ's and some guides and this looks like a great place for info.

Anyway, Just picked up a Sony DRX-840U External DVD burner. This is my fisrt experience with burning DVD's

I have all my movies of my kids on Mini-DV and need to assemble and put on DVD. (I'm planning on reading the guides for all the info I need on this)
I'd also like to make backups of some of my DVD's as well.

Hooked up the DVD burner (USB), and installed Nero 7 Essentials (It came with it)

Inserted a DVD movie and opened with Nero 7 Essentials, It plays fine on my desktop except there is no sound.
Is there something wrong with this DVD burner/player or am I doing something wrong?

Also ripped the DVD using dvd decrypter and then burned using Nero and DVD plays in my DVD player (hooked up to my TV), but no sound.

Any ideas? I didn't think I'd have an issue this soon, but I'm worried that the DVD burner is not working properly.

Looks like an issue with Nero itself.... Trying a different burner.

Are your speakers working?
Did you knock your speaker wire loose when you pluged in USB connector?
Put in a store bought DVD movie-do you have sound when you play it in Wndows media player?

rick6668 - I'm a newbie as well and purchased the identical SONY external DVD burner and having the identical NO SOUND problems. I've read through the string but I'm still not sure exactly what to do. The burner will play music CDs okay but NOT movie DVDs which do work in my DVD player for the TV. Could somebody please walk me through how to fix this? I did go to imgburn.com but it's bit confusing as to WHAT I'm supposed to download. Any help would be appreciated.

For me, Nero was not working because I was using the free version.

I am having what seems to be the same problem with my new Sony DRX 840U hardware. It came bundled with the Nero 7 Essentials software. I get no get any audio when attempting to play a DVD. CDs play fine. I've tried using Nero and Windows Media Player.
