Awhile back after backing up some of my Sony movies my pc started acting funny. Using DVD Shrink after the encoding process and during the actual burn with DVDDecrypter about midway the write rate will go to 0 for a few seconds then go back up to around 6x write rate. Most of the time the movies will play fine on my stand alone but when I take them to my friends house they will play about halfway through the movie then start freezing, skipping, and pixelating. Also when I first put the original movie in my pc it will make this weird what I'm going to call grunting noise. Is it possible my Sony movies have installed something on my pc to mess with Shrink and DVDDecrypter? If so would anyone know what it is and how to get it off my pc. And does putting CD labels on my discs have any effect on playback? Thanks!

Most likely you have a faulty burner.

To check out burner, if u know some with an external burner, maybe borrow and try a new burn.

First off DO NOT put sticky labels on your backups. This will cause them to freeze, skip, pixelate. If your burner is still acting funny after you burn with no labels on the disc then get a new burner, the burner is most likely going bad.

Labels of any kind are a huge NO NO for all the reason cincyfan listed.

Otherwise, yeah, it's probably time for a new burner. Good news is, a nice LiteOn is about $45.00, shipped to your door.

Good luck.

I made only 6 burns with is and so far so good. It's quiet. I upgraded the firmware as soon as I installed it. One of my burns was on a real crappy Gigaware (RITEKF1) disc. Tested it with Nero CD?DVDSpeed and got a score of 93. I didn't expect that.
Burner is a DH20A3P.

PM me a link to the burner you just got, if you don't mind. I'll snag one for a backup to my backup burner. You know, third string quarterback kind of thing.

Thanks for the info. I don't think my burner is bad. Yesterday after trying to rip one of my older Sony movies it made DVDDecrypter start burning extremely slow at 1.3 rate and it burned another movie before it at a 6.0 rate just fine before I tried the Sony movie. I have heard rumors that some of the older sony movies were putting stuff on pc's to interfere with DVDDecrypter. Has anyone heard of this before. If anyone knows what might be interfering with DVDDecrypter I would appreciate the help. And I will not be using labels anymore. Thanks!!

Your very slow burn rate and pixelation/playback issues could be because your DMA is off. Check and make sure your burner is not running in PIO mode. And the labels, makes the discs unbalanced and that will mess up your drives/players also, not just the discs.

ok here is what my pc is showing
Primary IDE Channel
Device 0
Transfer Mode - DMA if available
Current Transfer mode - Ultra DMA Mode 5
Device 1
Transfer Mode - DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode - Not Applicable

Secondary IDE Channel
Device 0
Transfer Mode - DMA if Available
Current Transfer mode - Ultra DMA Mode 2
Device 1
Transfer Mode - DMA If Available
Current Transfer Mode - PIO Mode
Should I uninstall both IDE's and then restart pc?
One more thing yesterday the Sony movie made my pc freeze up.

Uninstall and reboot the PC. This might not be the single issue that you are having, but PIO mode does not help.

You're welcome. Sometimes burners get in trouble when autoplaying new releases, like the ones from Sony. Disable autorun for your DVD drives.
