I am connected through a wireless router and would not like to disable my firewall protection but if I do would my ip address now be seen to everyone. I have a cable modem and I know that they used to charge additional money for leasing another ip address, is it possible to only use one ip address for 2 computers. Any help would be great!

you can buy a static IP from your cable provider.. from most you can anyway.. call or check their website to see if they offer static IPs.. Not cheap tho. But with a static IP, you can connect your cable modem to the router which then allows you to have multiple puters sharing the connection :).. router will split static IP into seperate IPs assigned by the router itself.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will try to assign my computers their own ip addresses instead of having them automaticly assigned and see how well that works.

If this helps you on any form....
Try changing your tcp port, if you'r working trough a firewall and/or proxy it may help.
I've done that and i raise from 660k (app) to 444mill (and thats a whole diference)

isnt the only way to assign individual IPs by using a server? to my knowledge many cableproviders forbide servers of any type being run on their networks, doesnt matter if its a home network server or an ftpserver. a server is a server to them. esp dont like home servers cause you are only paying for one IP but connecting multiple pcs to that one IP for price of one..

I maybe wrong there.. routers nowadays just might allows you to assign IPs yourself instead of it doing it for you. check your routers documentation to verify if thats an option

Well I opened all my ports using the DMZ feature in the base station (router) options and then installed blackice defender to close all the ports EXCEPT the one I use to connect to emule and now I have a high ID. I did assign ip's to my computer but they are still behind my routers firewall and using a nat connection plus I am using blackice which makes any ping to my other computers look dead. So far no complains from the cable company, so i guess no news is good news. Also I am not using a brand new IP address for my other computer but rather a 192.168.-.- connection which should only be for an INTRANET ip not a brand new static ip from the cable company. Just sharing the connection behind a router and now everything seems to work fine.
