i was running all of my sound through component cables for wsound but have recently upgraded to opticle cables. no that i have them all hooked up the only sound that i get is through the surround speakers. when i turn my amp to 2 channel which is the front speakers only i get no sound. when i turn it to stero 7 channel all i get is sound through the surround speakers. this is happening with all my components (dvd, tivo, and computer sound) any thoughts?

is there a difference in cables? do some output more than others? because i have 3 and it would be hard to bleieve that they are all defective.

Component cables are for video only. Red & white rca cables are analog for audio, and the yellow one is composite, for video. If you were using thr red & white audio cables, you were only getting stereo.

To get the audio over an optical cable, you need to assign the optical input, to whatever is plugged into it. Your owner's manual will tell you how to assign it. If it's for the dvd player, you'll probably need to go into the dvd player's setup menus, and set the audio output to "Bitstream", not PCM. DTS may also need to be turned on, but sometimes setting to bitstream, will also enable DTS.
