Error code 7 - how do I get error code 12?

I attempted unsuccessfully a soft mod with Ndure etc. I finished up with error code 7 which means I cannot do a thing although, searching on this site and others, I learned that if you can get an error code 12 this will unlock the hard drive which would enable the soft mod to proceed again. When I was just exploring this before Xmas, I was able to get error code 12 through disconnecting the DVD drive but I did not take matters forward at that stage as I was not ready. However, returning to the scene today, when I disconnect the DVD drive and boot the X box, I now get the error code 7 message and not 12 and so i am unable to do anything as the hard drive remains locked. Has anyone any suggestions please?
