I am using Smart Ripper 2.41 and when ripping i get speeds of about .3x thus taking me approx. 48h to burn.

Computer is AMD Athlon 1.2G, 128M SDRAM, 40G 5400rpm HDD, WINDOWS XP, 12x SAMSUNG DVD

Will adding a 256M or 512M stick of ram increase this ripping speed by Much? How much?

Is there something else that will speed up ripping.

Thanks

thanks jinhil but it seems XP has automatically turned DMA on all of my hardware.

However I tried ripping with another program called DVD Decrypter and in its startup message it claimed i had a 1x DVD Player (which I don't, I have a samsung 12x). Is there a setting I need to change to make it see a 12x DVD Player or is the player screwed.

Another wierd message it came up with in this DVD decrypter was 'Alert! Drive C:\(FAT32) does not support files >4GB'. This is a mystery to me as i have a 40G hard drive.

I figured my slow ripping speed must be something to do with one or both of these messages.

Please Reply. Thanks

PS thanks for reply jinhil

hello abstract1,

The message 'Alert! Drive C:\(FAT32) does not support files >4GB' is normal. Change the partition to NTFS and this will go away, but this hasn't anything to do with your slow ripping issue.

It's probably worthwhile testing your DVD using Nero's DVD Speed before assuming that anything other than SmartRipper needs fixing:

See what it reports. Also, I (and many others) have had much trouble with XP and ASPI. You may want to check/reload it:

Ah, and here's a good write-up on fixing ripping problems FYI:
