I have a Slim Ps2 70011 (Version 12). I recently had to change/fix the motherboard and they put a modchip(which one,I seriously don't know).
When they gave it to me(already fixed and modded)I was able to play my original games and backups without problems.
A month later:
1- I tried a PSX game backup (which I had never tried after the modding), it could detect the game but the screen went black (the PS logo never appeared).
2- I tried with other games even PSX originals, but no luck.
Later on:
1- When I was playing PS2 backups that always worked perfect it started freezing or skipping on loading screens or after an event (video, cutscene, etc.).
2- I was playing an original PS2 game and all of a sudden it froze.
I was like WTF!.
A month after:
1- I started playing backups but all froze somewhere at the beginning, another one that worked the best started to do something like a lag (cutscene plays, pauses, plays sometime, pauses several times and so on).
2- I even tried an original PS2 game but at the loading screen it froze.
Later On:
1- I chose to calibrate/change the voltage of the PS2 lens (I even cleaned the lens!).
2- When I tried the PS2 games none worked, not even original games. PSX games have the same problem as before but Audio CDs work perfectly. DVDs don't work either.
I wanted to know what my problem, how can I fix it and how to find out what modchip I have so I can go have a talk with the guy who modded my Playstation and kick him in the a**.
Please answer if you can, I don't know if I have to buy a new console or torture the guy so he can fix it back to normal.
I just kind of skimmed your post. Do you happen to know if they put a laser save on your unit? Seeing as how it's a V12, that bad boy laser is gonna fry fast as hell with a mod chip.
I have a V12 also. I installed a DMS4 Lite Modchip. After the mod all I get is a blank/black screen. This sounds alot like what you have also. Except I'm not able to play anything a all. I can remove the modchip and everything is just fine. So I know mines not the laser problem. I had a previous post asking about it, but the only reply I got was that there may be a loose pin on the bios chip. Haven't confirmed nor have I disproved this yet.
I was the one who left you a comment about the bios pins. I only hard mod my units so I couldn't tell you if its the same with the plug n play kind.
But I do know that twice i've had the black screen after install. (fat version ps2s) One of the times two bios wires melted into each other at the mod chip. Causing a short. The other time, a wire had come off the bios chip while I was taping everything down. Both easy fixes.
Ok,it's been a long time and my PS2 has been collecting dust ever since.
I have new ideas i wanna try and need some information or else I will be stuck with my Xbox 360 and my PSX.
I ask about these modding techniques in case I repair the lens:
-Like you said, laser fryed, thats ok....but WTF is a laser save?
-The power button fryed, can I build a switch?
I ask about these modding techniques in case I buy a new PS2:
-How does the Gameshark mod work? Do I need a Fliptop? If you have links post them.
-And what about the Swap Magic, I know I need the fliptop but do you recommend it?
I ask about these modding techniques in case I don't repair the lens and keep the broken PS2:
Which are the easiest ways to make this mods work?
