I recently got a new PS2 and its the silver 79001 version. I got the new set of keys installed (with some minor trouble regarding part C) and everything works hardware wise. When I dump in the DVD Copy of the Swapmagic 3.8 it boots, I pop in my IMPORTED game (Japanese original import) which booted just fine on my older PS2 I get nothing. I thought maybe its the swap magic but even my old 3.6 version fo swap magic wont load the game. It just goes to black and nothing happens. I've yet to attempt with any other games as I dont have any other imports and/or dvd-rs to test with yet but is there anything I should check? The PS2 hasn't had a single game played on it yet, fresh from the box.

With the Swap Magic 3.8 when it gets to the loading screen and you put in your original import game, what did you select>
I would try using Special then NTSC and see what happens.
If nothing try the same with the 3.6 version.
What is the name of your original Import game.

I've tried both ways and had little change. The original game is Para Para Paradise which, like I said, worked with my older PS2 with SwapMagic 3.6 which I also tried using. I'm a little short on ideas atm so I came here =) Thanks for the reply though, any more info you need let me know.

I got a new ps2 (black) and the same thing happened to me. All of the games that would run on my old fat ps2 would not boot at all in this new one. So I returned it to the store and got another one and that solved the problem. Now all my backups work again so it could just be your ps2.

I've tried this several more times with several combinations. Here is what I've tried:
SwapMagic 3.8
Normal - Default Video
Normal - NSTC Video (Game is NTSC btw)
Special - Default Video
Special - NTSC Video
SwapMagic 3.6
Normal (no option to pick video mode so I'm assuming default)
Special (again no option to pick mode so I'm assuming default)
I also tried all of these combinations with no memory card in, mem in slot 1 and mem in slot 2 and mem in both slots. Every one of these produced the same result.
I can see the laser initially search the cd entirely 2-3 times back and forth and then it stops on the outer edge and never moves again until I restart the process. I get nothing but a black screen. No message saying to insert a valid game or anything. I'm currently downloading a few PS2 games to test with this to see if I can eliminate the original import being the issue (which I hope it's NOT the issue). Is there anything I may have missed?

After reading your first post, I realized to tell you that you don't need part c, the one that goes where the hinge is on a PS2 79001
If the disc will spin with the lid open, then its not needed. They say this model does not have the sensor that needs pushing down or taped.
Maybe you have a bad SM DVD, try loading your SM CD, then swap for the DVD and see if that works.
You may just need to exchange your DVD.

If I put in my SM cd and then swap in the dvd I get "Please insert a Playstation 2 disc"
Also, the disc won't spin unless part C is inside and installed properly (its taped where it's at so it won't move) Even if the SM dvd was broken how likely that BOTH versions of the SM dvd are broke? SM 3.6 worked fine before and I only got a new PS2 since the old one went through too many lazers to make it feasible and I wanted a fresh system to play on again. It's a silver special edition PS2 79001 that came bundled with Songstar (ew of a game, fyi) and was a Christmas gift.

I meant try booting SM DVD with the SM CD,then swap backup, but nevermind it as you say you can't seem to play anything. Seems more likely its the PS2 and not the disks.
I think I would be exchanging or sending it in for warranty then.
And also its funny why some models 79000 have a sensor and some don't.

the PS2 plays normal US games just fine and boots the SM disks (individually) just fine. It's strange and I'm almost ready to just get another lens for my old ps2 and call it a day =(

The PS2 is fine I gurantee it. My 79001 does everything my older slim did as well as my FAT. I play imports and even backed up imports fine BUT, I use 3.6.
Also I dont know what you are talking about with needing part C. I dont use part C, I dont use any magic tools I put sticky tack in the sensor on the power switch and the disk brake AND THAT IS ALL YOU NEED.
It IS swap magic 3.8, it sucks and you can read plenty of complaints on it if you do a google search I also find it hard to belive that it wont boot with 3.6 as long as the settings are right.
Maybe, just maybe something is wrong with the DVD. Smething may have happend since you played it on the last system. Thats just a guess but like I say its not the PS2, dont go taking it back cause it wont play the only game you have tried, thats a little to much not? The 79001 is awsome and my only complaint is that the case and MB chaged a bit and wont fit my old slims ghost case.
