Funny problem with downloading/joining/unraring.

I'm having a weird problem downloading from RS at the moment.

The site I'm downloading from presents it's files as 'hrsplit' files which are then joined to produce a '7z' file (same as a rar file?).

The 'hrjoin'ed file is then fed into WINRAR (or 7zip).

Things start to get a bit weird when trying to RAR the joined file.

Both 7zip and winrar fail at the same place, winrar with:

! C:\RS\join\movie.7z: CRC failed in movie-1.avi. The file is corrupt
! C:\RS\join\movie.7z: CRC failed in movie-2.avi. The file is corrupt
! C:\RS\join\movie.7z: Error - operation failed

and 7zip with:

Data error in movie-1.avi. File is broken.
Data error in movie-2.avi. File is Broken.

I have downloaded, joined and unRARed (using both 7zip and winrar) the complete sets of files twice.

Duplicate file finder reports that all of the hrsplit files (.001, .002, .003 etc) are identical and that the joined files are identical.

After unRARing both sets of files (more than once each) they produce movie1 files that are 296085kb, but movie2 files that are 373663kb and 472620kb respectively.

Redownloading does sometimes result in a set of good files that will join and rar successfully ? but that is the exception rather than the rule.

I'm not sure where the problem lies but it's odd that seemingly identical files produce different results.
