I like to use my psp as a mp3 player alot, but i was wondering if there was any way that the psp can do an auto volume leveling to level off the volumes of the loud and quiet songs as its pretty annoying that 1 song will be killing your ears, while another song sounds like nothing when playing.

If you dont understand what im asking for, im asking for a program that automatically adjusts the playback to be played at a certain volume for all media that they are relatively the same volume.

No there is no program just as Erickomen has mentioned, but I do know that you could probably adjust the mp3 files before hand to sound all the same.

Here are some options:

I) If you have iTunes, there is an option to regulate mp3 volumes to mostly the same volume of sound.

Instructions^:
1) Go to Edit/ Select Preferences... / Then Select the Playback tab.

2) Click the box next to 'Sound Check' and make sure it has a check mark.

3) Then click 'OK'. iTunes should now be checking the files and readjusting them.

4) Just click and drag the songs to the PSP after iTunes is done adjusting the mp3's.

II) Have a mp3 editor program.
a. Edit the mp3 to a lower volume to hear them at a better sound.
b. Edit the mp3 to a higher volume to hear it louder.

Any questions about it, let me know.

I do suggest you use iTunes, it's good for organizing your mp3's, and you do not need an iPod to use it.

for itunes, is it like it will adjust the volume of the music and forever change the mp3 file such that it plays at that volume using any other player? or only thru itunes?

I think so, unless, if you want to be on the safe side, make copies of the original song list, and use the copies to have the volume changed.

well it works, but i still kinda have an issue with it, when i checked by how much the volume has changed, it reduced all of them rather than increasing the quieter ones, now its pretty darn quiet for the ones i had trouble listening too... anyway to fix it so it raises the volume and not lower?

Well the only other way I know is to find an mp3 editor for the ones you can't hear well and adjust them. I can suggest Audacity as a way to adjust them, it's a free-ware program so you don't have to pay.

Yeah, either by unchecking the songs(not sure though), or take the songs that you want to exclude out of the list first and let itunes adjust the other songs. After that, just add all of them to the PSP from the folder where you keep your songs.
