i have wii key on a pal wii with 1.9g update.

i tried to access mii contest channel today, but it said download a new version. i tried to connect to shop channel and it said that i had to update firmware to access it.
will this update ruin my perfectly functioning wii and wiikey?
i can't remember it was like this yesterday, so is this a new update from nintendo? anything to do with brawl?

i'm bumping this because now i recieved a mail from nintendo about updates on the channels and it needs to update the firmware to access them. i'm sure others members get this mail too. i have a feeling this update will brick my wii. i can live with no access to shop channel, but i'm curious about what's going on.
