I was just wondering if the Benq firmware is supposed to make the drive super loud? Whenever it's on the dashboard it doesnt make too much noise which is nice, but during gameplay (not XBLA) it is just really loud. Is this normal because I thought that these new drives were supposed to be quiet. Also, my brother has the same version and everything and his is just as loud.
Well it should make some sound when your playing, it's constantly loading and scanning the disc so the drive makes noise. While on dash board the drive is idle pretty much.
Quote:Benq Ixtreme v1.4.1
>> A new firmware replacement for the Benq VAD6038 Xbox360 drive..
Features:
(v1.41) Read Sector fix
(v1.41) 8x firmware dashboard speed fix
Some of you may have noticed your disc did not spin down once you went back to your dashboard with 1.4 8x, that should now be fixed. The Read Sector fix is a bugfix, though we are unsure if it has caused any complications in the past.
This release is not security related. The Xbox Live network is still using the same methods as always(media auth/timings) to determine whether your xbox360 is 'modified' or not. And as before, they still dont know what they are doing, banning innocent users along with modified consoles.
It is on 12x which is the same speed as it is default. I did this because I wanted to be as safe as possible while using xbox live. But if the normal speed is 12x, and it's supposed to be quiter, then why is it so loud. I cant remember if firmware made it louder, or if it was always like this.
The default read speed and the iXtreme read speed are different. By default, the original firmware will read up to 12x. But the read speed will vary at any time. It's not locked in at 12x the whole time.
With iXtreme, it's constantly spinning at 12x. So obviously if the drive is spinning at 12x the entire time, it's going to be loud. Using 8x seems to be the most suggested for good read speed and quietness.
