now I cant get it back.......... my head is wrecked, I cant copy/highlight pieces of text & I have lost my card games solitair & so on, probably lots of other problems that I have not spotted yet.

when I try to reinstall it I recieve the copy error "Setupcannot copy the file ........... ensure that the location below is corect or change it, and reinsert "windows xp home edition cd-rom in the drive you specify.

when I bought the laptop (Packard bell) I did not recieve a CD

can anyone help.

Alright whenever you remove a windows component the only way to reinstall it is from a Windows XP setup disc and recopying them back to their default directory in C:

Ask around and see if any of your friends or family members have a disc you can borrow. You can also find copies on P2P networks. While I don't normally recommend going this route, it's cases like these that I find it acceptable. I hate that new computers only come with restore discs.

PS - If you do get the files, I recommend copying the i386 directory off of the CD and save it to your hard drive. I usually save it to c:\i386. Next, go into the registry and change the following key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SourcePath
Set this value to "C:\i386" or where you stored the i386 directory.

Now, whenever you need to perform an update to the OS, it will pull the files from this directory instead of prompting you to insert the CD.
