I'm trying to burn a dvd..and when it asks me to insert a blank disk, I do so..but it will not read the disk. It'll go through the 'checking media' part of the process over & over & over again..without ever recognizing the blank disk in the drive. Any thoughts? Thanks!

More likely than not, your burner is faulty. This happened to my old Sony DRU710. I would go through the whole process of analyzing/encoding, but when Shrink sent the info over to Nero for burning, Nero would ask me to insert a blank disc, then check media would run for a bit, then it would ask again to insert a blank disc and so on, all the while the disc in the burner is new and blank.

Unfortunately looks like you need a new burner.

set the target in dvd shrink to write a iso file to your HDD, then open nero to burn or you can use imgburn which is freeware.

couple other things...

make sure you have to most up to date firmware for your drive/burner

use good quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim .cheap media may be the problem.

highly unlikey your drive is bad

Zoso is right on this one. I doubt you need a new burner. Clean the drive with a can of air, follow Zoso's advice with the firmware update and the good media. We cannot stress enough the importance of good quality media.

Pick up ImgBurn as suggested. It's an incredible burning engine. It also can search and update your firmware. Tools>Drive>Firmware update.

Once you get your problem solved using any method proposed here, please post and let us know what happened. Very interested. Also let us know what brand of canned air you used as well.

thanks.
