Hopefully one of you guys can help me with this one?
I have been downloading avi files, unzipping them with WinRar, converting them to TS files with DivXToDVd and burning to DVD+R with ImgBurn.
When I play them back on either of the two stand-alones they are jumpy, looks like the disc sticks, although it carries on playing.
The TS file plays okay on the PC, so I am assuming it is an issue with ImgBurn, the media, the writer or the players;
I have used all sorts of media, including TY and Verbatim.

TS File is okay on the pc, discs jump the same as on the tv

Thanks for the advice attar, uninstalled ImgBurn, downloaded DVDFlick and I may have identified the problem;
1) Burnt DVD plays fine on the external burner on the pc (Freecom FX-50), no jumps or flickering.
2) DVD Drive in the pc will not recognise the disc.
3) DVD also plays fine on a second laptop.
4) Primary stand-alone DVD Player will accept the disc but jumps and stalls worse than previously.
5) Secondary stand-alone player does not recognise the disc at all.
So, IMHO it is either the writer or the media where the problem lies...any thoughts?

Just played about with that one for the past couple of hours attar, the Freecom FX50 won't allow me to change the booktype!
Tried to change it through ImgBurn and Nero with no luck.
......typical!
...any further suggestions would be gratefully received.

Right, might be getting somewhere now.........
The newly burned discs play okay on all three pc's and the secondary stand-alone, they are still jumpy on the Sony DVD Player and LG 1080p Plasma.....!!

Not all burners will allow booktyping.
You might even consider DVD-R disks (if the standalone units specifications allow them).

Tried that one as well attar, now I have the issue that the discs play okay on the secondary standalone but not the Sony/LG which is in the living room!!
Still got the same problems with that one.....thanks for your guidance.

I arranged for a third party to try all versions of the DVD's on their stand-alones and some of the versions are perfect.....must be a hardware issue with my LG TV and Sony DVD....come across this before?

cougar, i'm havin the same exact problem! its like bad tracking on a old vhs tape, right?? in my sony dvd player it won't even play the disc....it gets jumpy when i put it in the pioneer.
i've used the convertx at 6x....i'm going to try the img burn...
this problem has been driving me nuts...now i finally have some ideas whats wrong!

here's what i'm trying this evening...xilisoft converter, saving it as a .vob.....i have been saving it as a an .avi.
i've been playing with write speeds, but no luck yet!
the funny thing is that some movies work....i downloaded six different movies from the same poster....two of them worked, no problem with convertx! thats why i kept thinking it was the individual movies....but then they play on the pc!

See if there is something in common with the source files.
Perhaps they are all 25 FPS (from a PAL standard) and you are converting them to NTSC (because you are in North America?).

Have checked the majority of the remaining host files, all are DivX, either 23 or 25fps and are being burnt as PAL, as I am in the UK.
Could it be a burner issue? I am using a Freecom FX50.
Playback hardware is a Sony DAR-RH7000 and an LG 42PC55, connected through quality scarts.

See if there is new firmware for the drive.
Run ImgBurn: Mode > Write > Tools > Drive > Check for firmware update.

Bloody typical, the RW18H9 drive I am using is not listed on the Freecom website!!
I have contacted them and asked about firmware, and have also downloaded the new version of ImgBurn, so hopefully that will all be resolved and be sorted.....vain hope I fear, but thanks for your help thus far attar.
I will report back when I have new firmware and have tried burning with new ImgBurn...cheers.

i've had success! i finally got one to work.....i went into convertx under settings, tv format and changed the resolution to automatic, changed the video standard to NTSC (there is a PAL setting too) and then changed the burning speed to 1x.
i don't know if you've tried this cougar...probably.
but its my newbie opinion that convertx is better, with the conversion and burning in one program.
have you tried xilisoft video converter 3? that has a setting where you can change the booktype...it didn't do me any good when i tried using it, then using imgburn...but it might be worth a shot...you have a lot more knowledge and understanding on the subject than me.
Thanks for your help guys...i was about ready to give up!

Since your in the UK, is not PAL the better choice?

Well it looks like I have now resolved this issue!
I was using DivXtoDVD and yesterday dumped this in favour of ConvertX, burnt two DVD's yesterday and both passed the TV test!
I am now moving on to burn the DivX's that have been piling up while I tried to resolve this issue.....hopefully the reults will all be the same!
