I can spoof any IP I want through a remote shell.. I can be anybody I want to be. The only thing the content owner has is an IP.. they have done a whois lookup and it happens that the IP could have been comcast (when I check domestic IP's there are usually 5 or 6 different options as to who owns them..) effectively they have no proof.. not hard proof that it was you doing anything.. To get that proof they would have to do something illegal.. namely put a sniffer on your connection.
Those letters all look very convincing.. If you think you are in the clear then ask them to clarify exactly what.. where and how you stole this content. You want a list of every single data packet.. Another thing to think about.. the content owners must have connected to the same files, therefore because they have taken no steps to have links to the content removed from the tracker they are using a form of entrapment.. but we know these companies are the lowest of the low.. normal laws about privacy and security don't seem to apply in the face of profit.
Same way as they can't accuse you of stealing somebodys car because it was seen parked on the street outside your house.
Even so.. comcast suck so dump them.. If they want a reason you can tell them... Threatening letters
it would be a good thing to change isp providers if you can, also were you useing peer guaridan? it is a good program. also were you useing a public tracker or a private one?
I thank all for replying. I am just going to wait and see.
I was using Public - tvrss/mininova/eztv
I thought peer guardian only filtered harmful ip addresses from getting at you while doing whatever, it does not protect or cloak your address correct?
remote shell... connecting thru another system... or using unix/linux?
dsl is a bit slower then cable modems and the other provider is wireless. Wired is def better then wireless.
That is why I am stuck with comcast for the time being.
Qwest and LP Broadband are the other providers of HSI in the area
any more bits of advice or whatever is gladly welcomed.

When the companies that reported you to com-cast,
(IE Safe-net and many others), they look for ONE packet to be shared
with them , then they report you.
Peer-guardian , (properly configured and updated.) Blocks
these connections, So yes they see you connected to the tracker,
But you haven't exchanged any data with them , because
they were blocked by Peerguardian2.
They cant report you if they cant connect to you.
I highly suggest you read and IMPLEMENT " RAV009 " 's
BT security guide.
