Help connecting dreamup to DB500C

Newbie question - can't connect dreamup to DB. I've got the dreamup software and have connected PC to DB via a null modem cable, but when i press connect it just says "connection prepared, now switch on dreambox". No matter what i do it just stays on that screen.

Am so frustrated, am trying to connect to NTL in dublin but can't even get started with this newbie problem!
