need help - dvd decyrpter and clone both going slow

i recently got a tdk dvd burner and along with clonedvd and dvd decrypter i ws burning movies at a pretty fast rate. But then i reformatted my computer, and now both programs are running extremely slow. Dvd decrypter used to run up to 6x nows its between 1.3 and 1.7x. I was wondering if anyone knows what the deal is. What do i do?

adamcarlo,
I am wondering what kind of computer you have and what operating system you are using. Also could you estimate how long in minutes it is taking? I assume you mean that at 6X, a 120 minute movie should take Decrypter about 20 minutes, right?
Im a computer newbie, but a nice detailed post concerning your system would be very helpful to those who can help. :D

sorrie frank... im using a gateway and windows 98. and yes your correct in assuming it used to take about twenty minutes and now its taking over an hour. i think i need some software that i used to have on my computer before i reformatted, but i am a newbie and i really have no clue

No probs at all, new users of this forum are sometimes a little reluctant to make long posts but they are welcome here. We enjoy helping people here. I think you are on the right track though. Did you try reloading your DVD programs? Just a thought.
How big is your harddrive? DVD programs can use up a bunch of drive space and maybe when you reformatted that was affected.
I have never reformatted or used anything but XP, but be patient and someone will answer who knows. If this post doesn't work out, post again. It's 10:14 Pacific time so many are off-line. I'll be on a while though, day off tomorrow!

Sounds like your hard drive and DVD drive are running in PIO mode they should be in DMA mode.
Update the IDE controller drivers from the motherboard main site.
You should update all the motherboard drivers after a reinstall anyway.
Then check to see if they are running in DMA or PIO mode.
Device manager ... hardware.. IDE controller.. properties

Have you installed any drivers for your Motherbaord since you reinstalled Win98?
These will be IDE drivers, AGP drivers and VIA chipset drivers.
If you haven't then it is running on the ones that are built into win98 which are not going to do it any favours.
You need to go to the website of the manufacturer of your Motherbaord and download the drivers for your model.
install them and it should make things a whole lot better.

As far as what Malum was telling you to do -
1. Go to "Control Panel" then to "System", then go to the "Hardware" tab, about 1/2 way down the box you should see "Device Manager" click that, your next screen lists all the stuff in your computer.
2. Click on the "+" where it says IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers (or something close to that).
3. Now it will say "Primary IDE channel", right click that then left click "Properties". On this screen click on the top tab that says "Advanced settings".
4. Then look at the box that says, "transfer mode" - make sure that says DMA and NOT PIO.
Repeat these instructions (numbers 3. and 4.) to check the "Secondary IDE channel" making sure you are in the DMA mode.
