is there a way for me to copy my games through my Optiarc AD-7170s Drive? i have seen other ways in which other drives are required or i have to open my dvd-rom. i want to do this purely by software and am wondering if i can with my dvd-drive.

No. There are two methods
1. WXripper (opening the drive)
2. Getting a kreon flashed Samsung DVD-Rom

Option 2 being the far easier way you just have to spend about $60. But it is a MUCH easier method. But by backing up your originals the first game you save from damage will pay for the drive.
