I'm a firm believer in SOFTMODDING as opposed to installing extra hardware. Check out my tutorial if you're interested. I can give you more info if you wanted to know if something was possible with a softmod PS2. Chances are it is!

Ah right. No I don't think there has been much success with USB connections to external hard drives I'm afraid. However the memory card exploit may still work. But again I'm not too familiar with slimlines so I'm not the best person to give advice on that.
