Hi, I'm having several problems with my ps2. It has a Matrix Infinity with current firmware already preinstalled. Is there a certain order I need to load the disc in order for backups to play? I mean do I turn on the ps2, open the tray, hit the reset button, etc? Basically what happens is I turn on the ps2, load the game and sometimes I just get a black screen and it doesn't work. Other times, It will get to the ps2 logo screen, then go to the matrix screen and then it shows the memory card/ CD screen but when I click on the CD nothing happens. Other times it will say please insert a ps2 disc... whether it's an original ps2 disc or a backup. What buttons do I use to access the options and what options might I change to help some of these issues? I'm really getting frustrated with it. By the way, the model is SCPH-39001. Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this for me.
1st - You always need to have a controller in the port for the chip to work. I'm sure you know that.
2nd - A little more detail on what's going on. You say sometimes the ps2 just has a black screen? Other times it goes to the browser menus but nothing loads?
It's definitely a problem with the wiring to the chip.
I hate to tell you what everyone says, but open her back up and recheck all your connections. Use a multimeter on your bios connections to make sure none of them are bridged.
Also check your ground n power connections. They can't be too long. You want them as short as possible.
Hi, thanks for the reply. Actually, I didn't know you needed the controller in for the chip to work but the controller is always in anyway. Also, I didn't do the mod myself, I bought the ps2 off ebay and it was pre modded so I have no idea how to check the wiring and multimeter and all that stuff. But my son is in college and taking electronics engineering so I will ask him too. Anyone else has any ideas feel free to chime in.
I want to thank everyone for helping out and offering suggestions. I unplugged the console and flipped it over so I could get the model number (version 7 by the way). Then a couple days later, I plugged everything back in and it's working now with fuji and sony discs, but still not with taiyo yuden. It sounds to me like it had a lose wire and just flipping it over and then back again has fixed it mostly. I'll have my son open it up tomorrow and have a look at the wiring. there may be a lose one or the wires are too long or something. I'll keep you posted.
Make sure to watch a video (on youtube) on getting to the ps2 mother board to save some time. I'm sure your son can figure it out on his own, but to just speed the process up a bit, might wanna take a look at a guide. Just a thought.
