OK, I've looked searched here and I can't find any threads about this. It's also possible that I'm nooby enough I don't understand if a thread concerns this.

With my new toy, my dvr, I can record my own dvds from different sources.

If I take one of these dvds I can copy it to a new dvd in 15 minutes. If I try to author a dvd with one of these homemade .vob files, it takes hours. Why does my dvd authoring program need to transcode the .vob file (but not for a copy)?
