just read one of the guides on the home page where a test was done to see what movie files a 360 could play..i cannot get mine to play any thing other than a proper dvd any ideas..the guide states they got to play lots of formats put on a dvd ..

Yes, from what i read it will play DivX from a disc or USB device like a flash drive. But it required that you get an update to your 360.
It was suppose to be part of the last update that was done. Other options would be to use TVersity or ORB to stream the files as they will convert them to a format for the 360. Or get a modded regular Xbox which is ten times the media player that the 360 is. And using XBMC can upscale the DivX to 720P format.

Personally i never use DivX on my 360 (or any other movie) because i have an upscaling DVD player that plays all DivX formats. And a regular Xbox that can play them as well.

cheers steimy i will try to update the 360.your right about the original xbox but i just thought if i can get it to play divx as well i may as well use it thanks

i just tried to update using downloaded update file and 4cds and 2 dvds later it still wont work ..the update is there but it wont update any ideas thanks

The divx is a seperate dl.what you do is connect to live then try to play a divx while on live,then it will dl the update for you.

yes but i was told if you dl the update and use a disc it will update without the need to go on line

i am still having no success with this i have even tried putting the update on a memory stick and putting it in rear usb still nothing...any more ideas i can try ..is it right if i give my hard drive to someone who is on line they can update it for me or is this a myth thanks
