Fifa 08 connection to opponent lost-please help!!

I want to play fifa 08 online on my psp. I can connect to ea servers and log in.
I search for an opponent, choose team and kit then the game loads. After it has finished loading i get the message:

The connection to your opponent has been lost. The session has ended.

There is nothing wrong with my internet connection - i play fifa 08 online all the time on my wii.
I am running custom firmware 3.90 on the psp. Could this be the cause?
