the ps2 in question is scph70012 with a matrix infinity gd.
whenever i close the lid while running a real/backup ps2 game or a dvd, the led will blink briefly green before going back to standby again. however, this does not happen when i place a ps1 game; rather, it loads perfectly. if nothing is in the ps2, there seems to be nothing wrong. it displays the matrix prompt screen and i am able to access the menu for it, therefore i do not think it has anything to do with the chip
im inclined to believe that it has something to do with my laser, but i want some opinion about the potential problems with it before i start doing anything. i have, however, tried cleaning the laser but with no avail.
irrelevant or not, i had left a backup ps2 game running overnight, then pressed reset that caused this problem. since then, i could not run anything but ps1 games on it.
I have no idea what is the problem. But i do not think it is the laser, if a laser is bad it dont load. If you have a orginal ps2 game, try loading it n see if it works, then try disabling the chip and see if a original game work. Also V12 ps2 slims need a laser fix, so if u don't have that your laser may die faster. So your ps2 laser could of died or the laser fix is messed up. There are also about 16 tiny fuses on the mobo, these may of blown out but i doubt it did. If u don't have a multimeter or lazy then don't check it cause im pretty sure nothing is wrong with them.
I really cant think of anything besides the laser fix. But try some original games with the chip on and with the chip off. I have a DMS 4 se Pro and havent used a matrix chip in a long time so i do not remember what the os looks like or how to disable the chip, or maybe it auto disable or... idk.
What a laser fix do is turn off the PS2 or pauses the laser for a few sec when some 'bad' signal is seen. Also dvd lasers are like 2 separate laser, they both uses the same laser, but they both have different output, which could explane y cd games work. Which reminds me try DVD Movies also, orginal movies if u have any.
Also, just want to tell u that dvd have quality, taiyo yuden, sony, verbatim are good dvd's. Bad ones like Memorex, Most TDK, Playo, Staples, some maxell, and many others especially if it is not a common name like Playo. Bad disks are bad for lasers and also the stuff recorded on the disk may get 'corrupted' and messed up, videos would be all blocky then years later they will not be readable.
As soon as I read the subject title the question, "Is it a v12?" topped into my head.
I bet that has something to do with the neo fix that was probably used to keep the laser from burning.
And since the game was running all night. *sigh* I'm guessing something got messed up there. I'm surprised the fix didn't save your ps2 and shut it off. Which it is supposed to do.
Unless this didn't have the laser fix? If it didn't, then there's your problem. Your laser.
well, the ps2 did have a laser fix on it and from what you said about the ps2 shutting off whenever a bad signal is received, im pretty sure it's the laser fix that's the problem.
the ps2 runs fine if i leave the lid open, but as soon as the lid closes with a disc that is not cd or ps1, it shuts off. that confirms the different output issue you suggested. guess i have to replace the neo fix then, thanks for your help.
