I would like to soft mod my slim scph-77001. I believe that makes it a v15. (Not sure if it's v15a or v15b -- don't know how to tell)

Anyways, I was going to use the gameshark method, but then I read that:

"The Sharkport will work for all playstation 2 systems made up to march of 2003 Playstation 2 system model #'s 30001-35001 Only. They will not work for sytems made after march of 2003."

Seeing as how mine is a 77001, according to this information I cannot use the gameshark method.

My question is: what is the best way to soft mod a slim schp-77001? I would like to avoid buying swap magic if possible. I would like to mod my slim so I don't have to swap a disc every single time I turn the console back on.

Well Swap Magic is the cheapest and easiest method out there. Even if you could have used Gameshark, you would have had to do more swaps.
At least with Swap Magic its only one swap.
The only soft mod going right now with no swap is the memor32.
You can read more about it on my blog.
And compatibility you can find throughout this thread.
Newer firmware is still in the works, but a lot is compatible so far.
