You can either softmod it or hardmod it ^_^
Hardmodding doesn't require any PSP as you'll have to open the battery :)
Whereas if you're planning to softmod a PSP battery, you'll need a PSP with a custom firmware with 1.50 kernel :) [There are guides to softmod a battery to pandora battery using a PSP slim having custom firmware too]

Well, which firmware a pandora battery can take you totally depends on the "magic memory stick" you're making ^_^
There are pandora batteries that downgrade the PSP to 1.50 firmware (If PSP classic) and that can directly put custom firmware (eg. 3.71m33-4, Useful for PSP slim & it can also be used on a PSP classic)
