I have a dvd of home movies, I need to get them on my computer some how so I can edit them. How would I go about transferring footage on my burnt dvd to my computer as a .wmv (or any type of video file)?

thanks

*sorry if this is the wrong sort of thread, i couldnt really find a category for this question

If the movies are in DVD format, they are contained in the folder 'VIDEO_TS'
This folder can be simply dragged onto the desktop.
Generally the actual video files are named 'VTS_01_1.VOB' 'VTS_01_2.VOB, etc.

These are mpeg files and can either be renamed from .VOB to .MPG and loaded into the likes of 'Windows Movie Maker' and saved as .WMV files or 'DVD Shrink' can open the 'VIDEO_TS' folder and the 'Re-author' tool used to make basic editing cuts then the whole re-saved as a new DVD folder or burned to disk.
If the files on the disk are not DVD movie format (perhaps AVI), then they might be better edited with the likes of 'VirtualDub.

After converting the file extension over to .wmv, can you then send the file out in a email so that a person can view on the system?

The video can be attached to an email, but the limits applied to attachment size will apply.
I think Hotmail's limit is 10MB?
